Alpha University is a higher education institution based in Hargeisa, Somaliland. It is committed to providing quality, accessible, and career-oriented education that prepares students to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
The university offers academic programs designed to develop students’ knowledge, professional skills, leadership abilities, creativity, and ethical values. Through qualified and dedicated academic staff, practical learning, research, and community engagement, Alpha University aims to contribute to the social and economic development of Somaliland.

Founded on 29 June 2009 with the Faculties of Law, Business and Economics, and ICT, the university has since added Social Science, Public Health and Engineering. Over the past 15 years, 15 batches have graduated from Alpha University, with the 15th batch scheduled to graduate on October 1, 2026.

- 2009
Founded on 29 June 2009
Alpha University opens in Hargeisa with its first three faculties: Law, Business and Economics, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
- 2014
Burco branch
Alpha University Burao opens to serve Togdheer and the eastern regions.
- 2016
First MBA graduates
The first batch of the MBA in Islamic Banking and Finance graduates from the Hargeisa main campus, Berbera and Burao campuses.
- Growth
Three new faculties
Following an assessment, the Faculty of Social Science, Faculty of Public Health and Faculty of Engineering are established — bringing the total to six faculties with capacity for more than 9,000 students.
- Today
Four regional branches
Alongside the Hargeisa main campus, Alpha University operates branches in Berbera, Burao, Borama and Las’anod.
- 2025-26
750 graduates
A total of 750 students successfully graduated from their respective programmes in the 2025-26 academic year.

15th Annual Convocation
The 15th batch — the Class of 2026 — is scheduled to graduate on October 1, 2026.
